Who is Ross Perot?

Born on 27th June 1930, Henry Ross Perot was an American businessman, politician, billionaire, and philanthropist who also ran for the United States presidency twice as an independent candidate in 1992 and 1996 respectively (Hall,2019). He was the most successful third-party candidates in the history of the United States. Formerly named Henry Ray Perot, he later changed his name to Henry Ross Perot during his early teen years. 

He was also the pioneer of the computer services industryand subsequently established the Electronic Data Systems Corporation in the year 1962. After about two and a half decades later, he also established Perot Systems Corporation (Hall,2019). Consistently politically outspoken, despite being only 5foot6, he decided to step off the sidelines and get himself directly engrossed into politics in the spring season of 1992; this is because he was disappointed by the then-President George H.W. Bush, and he also did not approve of the then potential Democratic candidates (Hall, 2019). Perot thus positioned himself as an independent candidate and wrote his ideas for re-building the then troubled United States.

In the year 2000, Perot retired from the daily operations of his organization, viz Perot Systems, even though he continued to stay on as the organization’s chairman. He, however, did not wholly stay out of politics as in the year 2012, and he endorsed Republican candidate Mitt Romney in the then-presidential race (Hall, 2019). In February, Perot was soon after diagnosed with leukemia, as well as another considerable secondary infection in the following month that, according to his family, almost killed him. In spite of this, Perot stubbornly fought back by showing up at his office most of the days. He, however, lost his battle with leukemia on 9th July 2019 at his Dallas home. Perot will be committed to memory as being one of the most prolific businessmen and influential politicians of his time.
